Embarking on this 38-volume journey means you’ll need access to the books. Fortunately, despite the series’ rocky publication history, today all Gor novels are available in print and digital formats – no need to scour used bookstores unless you want collectible old editions.
- E-Books: The entire Gorean Saga has been released as e-books, originally through the E-Reads company and now via Open Road Media (a publisher that specializes in digital reprints of genre classics). You can find the Kindle editions on Amazon, for example, often labeled as “Open Road Media Sci-Fi & Fantasy” editions . Other e-book retailers (Kobo, Barnes & Noble for Nook, Apple Books, etc.) also carry them. The e-books were released around 2014 in a wave, coinciding with the series’ 40th anniversary and rebranding as the “Gorean Saga” for new audiences . They are usually reasonably priced and contain the full unabridged texts.
- Print Books: If you prefer physical copies, Trade paperback editions of the later books (26–38) can be bought new (publishers like Dark Horse or Open Road have printed them via IPG – Independent Publishers Group ). For Books 1–25, you might find older paperback prints from Ballantine/DAW in used condition, but there are also print-on-demand versions available. Some online retailers list new paperback editions of the classics via Open Road as well. Check the ISBN and publisher listing to see if it’s an official release. You can also check used book sites like AbeBooks – they often have affordable copies of the 1970s–80s paperbacks (with the iconic Boris Vallejo or Gino D’Achille cover art, if you’re into vintage covers). Just note that anything labeled “DAW first edition” after book 13 isn’t rare – DAW printed only one run for many of those books due to low sales back then , meaning “first edition” is just the edition.
- Audiobooks: Good news for audio lovers – a number of Gor books have been produced as audiobooks, available on Audible and other platforms . The narration is often by Ralph Lister or similar voice actors who bring a deep, formal tone that fits the material. As of now, not every single book has audio, but many of the early entries (Tarnsman through Marauders, for example) and several later ones do. Audible has listings for recent releases as well, like Warriors of Gor (Book 37) . If you enjoy audiobooks, you might try listening to Book 1 – the descriptive language and dialog can be quite engaging in spoken form (though be prepared to occasionally blush if listening in public, given some content!).
- Libraries: Some libraries (especially in the US) might have Gor novels in their ebook collections via OverDrive/Libby, since Open Road Media distributes to libraries. For instance, OverDrive shows the Gorean Saga as a series with 39 entries . You can check your local library’s digital catalog. Physical copies in libraries are rarer (due to past controversies, many libraries did not stock them), but inter-library loan could surprise you.
- Official Website and Fan Sites: There is an official Gorean Chronicles website (gorchronicles.com) which sometimes posts news on releases . They once announced when the ebooks launched. While you can’t buy directly there, it’s a resource for confirming ISBNs or release order. Fan sites like Gorean Living or The Gorean Cave provide tons of quotes and references (like a concordance), but they do not offer full texts – you’ll still need the books themselves. Avoid any shady “PDF download of Gor” sites – not only is that illegal, but also many such files are incomplete or poorly scanned. Since the series is commercially available again, supporting the official releases helps ensure the saga stays accessible.
A tip: if you plan to read many of the books, consider getting a couple in omnibus form if available (sometimes Books 1–3 are sold in a single volume). Also, Goodreads and book series blogs often have the reading order listed, so you can keep track of which book is next (the numbering can get confusing since the later ones use titles not numbers on the cover). I’ve listed them here in order, so refer back if needed.
Lastly, immersing yourself in Gor can be more fun with community – there are discussion groups on platforms like Reddit (r/Gor or r/Gorean subforums) where people share their thoughts, Discord servers, Second Life or Facebook groups for Gorean fans. They can point you to where they bought their copies or just provide moral support as you venture into some of the more extreme content.
I wish you well!
